Certains des détenus ont été emmenés en bus à Ramallah en Cisjordanie, où une foule en liesse les a accueillis, et 70 d’entre eux ont été « expulsés » en Égypte.

La nouvelle a été accueillie par des cris de joie. Après la remise de quatre otages israéliennes, 200 prisonniers palestiniens ont été libérés par Israël ce samedi 25 janvier. Une foule compacte a exulté lorsque les bus transportant une partie des ex-détenus sont arrivés dans les rues de Ramallah. Selon les journalistes de l’AFP, des milliers de personnes sont venues dans cette ville cisjordanienne, siège de l’Autorité palestinienne, pour les accueillir.

La libération des prisonniers a été confirmée en début d’après-midi par l’administration pénitentiaire israélienne, selon qui les « terroristes » libérés avec « l’aval des autorités politiques » venaient des prisons d’Ofer en Cisjordanie et de Ktziot, dans le sud d’Israël.

New Atheists such as Richard Dawkins make evolution the center of their argument against belief in God. Hamza Karamali assumes, for the sake of argument, that evolution is true. He then explains what that would mean by giving an overview of gradual evolution by natural selection by successive DNA recombinations and mutations. He then turns the tables on atheists by explaining why, if this natural process is true, it would prove the existence of God rather than disprove it because evolution is a description of relations between contingent things. This is entailed by the argument from contingency used by traditional Muslims scholars and it is the first time that has been applied in the public domain in this way to respond to atheist arguments from evolution.

This naturally leads to the conclusion that science is great. Not only does it make our lives in this world better, it also reveals religious knowledge.

This also naturally leads to an exploration of whether the argument from contingency is a God-of-the-gaps argument. He explains briefly why it’s not. The details for that will be in the next episode.

Timothy Winter (Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad) is an English academic, theologian and Islamic scholar who is a proponent of Islamic neo-traditionalism. His work includes publications on Islamic theology, modernity, and Anglo-Muslim relations, and he has translated several Islamic texts.

He is the Founder and Dean of the Cambridge Muslim College, Aziz Foundation Professor of Islamic Studies at both Cambridge Muslim College and Ebrahim College, Director of Studies (Theology and Religious Studies) at Wolfson College and the Shaykh Zayed Lecturer of Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Divinity at University of Cambridge.

I spoke to Jalal from The Thinking Muslim Podcast to discuss the islamic model for masculinity as well as how to avoid the negative influences of the liberal world around us.

Even if we don’t subscribe to the oft quoted phrase of Jordan Peterson that there is a crisis of masculinity, we may accept that young men live lives in an era where their roles and responsibilities remain subject to intense scrutiny. Liberal society endorses a particular type of man, a new man, domesticated and refined, sensitive and progressive. Conservative criticism seeks to return, or at least how they see it, to a man more in tune with his biological yearning. The need to be strong and unperturbed by any woolly notions of emotional intelligence. A young Muslim male living this experience is often also confused by the messages coming from Muslim quarters, you can find contemporary Islamic commentary that would back up both narratives, all looking to paint a type of man in tune with modernity or suited to a time where, as the phrase goes, ‘men knew how to be men’.

Our guest this week, Ameen from the popular Mind Heist podcast and Seera Masters YouTube channel is a young man trying to make sense of this world. Intuitively he felt both narratives were missing something, and that is the role of revelation. Allah (swt) did not leave men or women to their base impulses, because without direction human beings are destined to lead unfulfilled lives. Ameen set off on a journey to discover what Islam expects from a man and in his own words found conclusions that challenged his own preconceptions. He is in the process of putting his thoughts and study down on paper and is currently writing a book on the subject and we spoke to him last week to discuss the project and his findings.
