Laurel and Hardy performed the song and dance routine (Hardy singing and both dancing) to the song in their 1939 film Flying Deuces.

"Shine on, Harvest Moon" is a popular early-1900s song credited to the married vaudeville team Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth. It was one of a series of Moon-related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era.

Laurel and Hardy were a comedy double act during the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema. The team was composed of thin Englishman Stan Laurel and heavyset American Oliver Hardy.

The Flying Deuces - Ollie has fallen in love with the innkeeper's daughter in Paris. The only problem - she's very much in love with her husband. To forget her he joins the Foreign Legion with Stan. Bad idea.

The Flying Deuces (1939)
Director: A. Edward Sutherland
Writers: Ralph Spence(original story), Charley Rogers(original story), Fred Schiller(original story)
Stars: Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Jean Parker
Genre: Comedy, War
Country: USA
Language: English
Also Known As: Flying Aces
Release Date: 3 November 1939 (USA)
Duration: 68 min
Filming Location: General Service Studios - 1040 N. Las Palmas, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA

Storyline:
Oliver is heartbroken when he finds that Georgette, the inkeeper's daughter he's fallen in love with, is already married to dashing Foreign Legion officer Francois. To forget her, he joins the Legion, taking Stanley with him. Their bumbling eventually gets them charged with desertion and sentenced to a firing squad. They manage to escape in a stolen airplane, but crash after a wild ride.

Reviews:
"The only Laurel and Hardy movie I would unequivocally recommend.
That statement right above goes without saying that I haven't seen too many of Laurel and Hardy's films (I've also seen their Christmas nutcracker film, and one about making a movie or other, though the memory is now hazy for the most part on what I did or didn't see as a tot). But this is not just a classic from the duo, but one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen. It's refined slapstick, made up of facial gestures, anger, repetition, big life decisions like falling in love, suicide, joining the French foreign legion, and flying a plane without much control of a wheel. The director, Sutherland, also somehow crafts out the single funniest joke ever crafted around (as silly as it sounds) a mountain of laundry. It's not a very complex storyline, as Hardy falls for a girl, can't get her, feels down about it almost enough to jump into the river, but gets a word of advice right before it happens by a fellow traveler to join the foreign legion to forget about it. But they get in over their heads by joining, and want to quit, and soon become the biggest bumbling boobs to ever join up, leading to many chases, and that death-defying plane ride (or is it?)

It's the kind of film that unless getting head-on into Laurel and Hardy's distinctive and influential comedy timing will only really be of interest if passed on down as a child. It's a great comedy though for all ages- if the term 'family comedy' might be a little too pat a description, but one that does have a central appeal as smart physical comedy- as it doesn't pander to anyone, and even has a sincerity to it. I still remember most fondly the song and dance number Laurel and Hardy do in a moment of a jam (Shine on Harvest Moon, I think it was called), and the supporting character work is also a fine plus. And, quite frankly, one of those quintessential wacky end scenes that keeps me smiling, and laughing depending on who I'm talking with about it, where a certain horse with a mustache and hat appears saying "another fine mess you got me into." A pick-me-up comedy of manners and pratfalls, it'll always have a place in my collection not only for nostalgic reasons (it was one of the first videos I ever owned), but for its stamina so many years later."-Written by Quinoa1984

"Be Big" is a classic Laurel and Hardy short film. In the story, Laurel and Hardy are about to head to Atlantic City with their wives when Ollie receives a phone call from Cookie, a lodge buddy. Cookie informs Ollie about an enticing stag party in their honor that evening, leading Ollie to pretend to be sick to get out of the trip with their wives.

With the wives gone, Stan and Ollie dress in their lodge gear, and comedic scenes follow, including a struggle to remove one of Stan's boots from Ollie's foot. However, their escape plan takes an unexpected turn when the wives return, having missed their train.

With no way out, Stan and Ollie find themselves hiding in a Murphy bed in fear. When Stan asks, "What'll I do?" in desperation, Ollie replies with the classic line, "Be big!" The film captures the humor of Laurel and Hardy's comedic timing and the amusing situations they find themselves in.

A gruff sea captain, who absolutely detests the word "ghost," is having trouble manning his ship because of the rumor it's...well...haunted. He inveigles Stanley and Oliver into helping him shanghai a crew from the sailors at a dockside bar. The comic duo accomplish this by using one of the funniest devices ever put into a movie, and of course it all goes wrong. Once aboard, the captain warns them that whoever says the word "ghost" will get his head twisted from north to south. After much time at sea and many port stops later, one of the drunken sailors falls into a trough of whitewash, terrorizing Stanley and Oliver into blurting out "ghost" in front of the enraged captain, which brings about the story's Laurel and Hardy trademark "another fine mess" ending.

SHOULD MARRIED MEN GO HOME? is a silent comedy film starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. It was released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on September 8, 1928. There's also some behind the scenes footage.

When Laurel visits Hardy at home, hi-jinx occur and the Mrs. orders them out. They go to a golf course where they try to impress two young ladies and wind up in a mud-slinging fight with other golfers.

The location footage was mostly shot by George Mann of the comedic dance act Barto and Mann.

Directed by James Parrott
Written by H.M. Walker and Stan Laurel
It stars Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Egar Kennedy, Edna Marian, Viola Richard, Charlie Hall, John Aasen, Chet Brandenburg, Dorothy Coburn, Jack Hill, Sam Lufkin and Lyle Tayo

This film is in the public domain meaning it has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission. Corporations lobbied Congress to get U.S. copyright laws extended by 20 years, twice! Because of that, it allows published works to be under copyright for almost a century and corporations to squeeze every last ounce of profit from them even long after the profitability has past. It keeps people from enjoying art, which is the purpose of art.
